ECU CAN SETUP
The CAN setup should be configured for mode 8 (Custom Data Set 1 Sequential) in the CAN 0 Data slot, with the address set in decimal, as shown in the screen capture below. Note that the CAN address is configurable, but the examples below will use 1520, which is 5F0 in hexadecimal.
CUSTOM DATA SET 1
Go to the “Setup Custom Data Sets” option on the menu, and set up Custom Data Set 1 to send the channels you want to transmit to the third party dash. Note that the order of the channels in the list here is important, as this determines whereabouts the channels are positioned in the CAN messages transmitted by the ECU.
CAN MESSAGE STRUCTURE
Once the CAN setup has been configured as described above, the channels are allocated to the CAN IDs in the following way, depending on their position in the list. IDs below are listed in hexadecimal starting from the specified ID. Each channel is broadcast in 16-bit format, taking up two bytes.

If more than 20 channels are being transmitted, the allocation of channels to CAN IDs continues in the pattern shown above.
CAN SPECIFICATIONS
The MoTeC M400 M600 M800 CAN-series ECU operates with the following CAN parameters:
- Bus speed 1Mbit/s
- Standard length identifiers
- Normal/Motorola/Big Endian alignment
- Channel scaling for each parameter is detailed in the document “PSAU0015 MoTeC M800 Data Set 3 Protocol”
- Transmit frequency is user definable, but normally 50Hz for all channels
