Motorbike 1 wire water temp connector installation advice

Postby sev » Mon Sep 02, 2019 8:09 am

Hi Race Technology,

I'm in the process of wiring a dash2.

I have the Race technology supplied coolant temperature sensor, but due to package space constraints the harness lead is proving difficult to package as its so bulky - unless you can recommend a resistor with a 90 degree or shorter connector on it?

It's more the harness itself that is the problem as the connector tail and boot is quite long and I dont want to bend it in case there is a resistor or similar in the wiring which could get broken.

the current OEM connector is much much smaller at the head, using the body of the connector to earth against the thermostat housing:

The sensor has the following specification:

temp Resistance
50 deg C 153.9 ohms
80 deg C 51.9 ohms
100 deg C 27.4 ohms
120 deg C 16.1 ohms

Looking at the knowledge base, I may need ot wire in a pull up resistor, looking at the readings above, will this be the case, and if so what should I use?

Many thanks in advance

Hello

Yes, to use that sensor you will need a pullup resistor and this should be around 270-300 Ohms.
A little bit more would be ok but definitely not less.
