Reading lap times in real time?

Postby nikpro » Mon May 26, 2008 12:09 am

If I connect a lap top to a DL-1 Data logger via the serial port is there anyway of downloading the data to the analysis software as it is being written so I can get laptimes/trackmaps as the car is circulating the track?

No, you can log the data to a file to look at the data afterwards, or you look at it in the Monitor software to see what is going on in real time. There is currently nothing in the Monitor software to do live track mapping or lap times, but these will be added shortly.

I agree, "live" laptimes in the monitor program will be great, just as an easy way to draw the map out of the gps data and the position of the driver.

Drawing a map with the available xy graph is possible with the gpsX and gpsY values, but this is not easy to do.

We use transceivers between the DL1 and PC to monitor the "condition" of the bike and the fuel usage during the endurance races, works great.

I just checked on our products modification sheet, the request is still there but there are no notes about it being implemented yet. As soon as I have some more news on this I will let you know.

Any news on this topic?
Or, is the new "Speedbox" the only means of getting this type of information?

My question is sort of related - is it possible to get GPS and IMU G-G display directly from the Dataloger + AND log for post session?
Could the data be displayed on a secondary display (slave) as shown here: Image

Thanks and Happy New Year!

Not sure is this fully answers your requirement Jim, or is of interest to others but there is the RTLive product now which does gives real-time data back to either the web interface or to the Live Monitor (Internet Connection required).

You can certainly get live laptimes plus you can download the data AT ANY TIME so say in an endurance race you can download up to data data and bring though into Analysis.

You can also set alarms for any data you are capturing (Low fuel/Oil pressure/Coolant Temp) etc. and whilst I haven't tried myself you should be able to monitor ALL logged data in the Live Monitor Program.
