Hi. Wanting to know where the main unit is commonly put in this type of car. I assume the floor in the passenger compartment but m worried about water in a wet race. Where are they commonly put and how are they usually mounted.

For flexibility I was planning floor near centreline in passenger footwell on velcro.

The DL1 isn't waterproof... typically it is mounted tucked up under the cowling. Ideally it should be somewhere near the COG of the car, but in practice the errors are tiny.

OK thanks. Still strugggling with the best way to mount it there. No chance you guys have some photos of installations in this sort of car? It has to be horizontal right?

Sorry, I don't have any photo's to hand....

The unit does have to be horizonal/flat/square in the car, however it's only small at about 1" high and 4" wide. It also comes with some mounting brackets.

Would a large magnet affect the logger in any way? You could glue a magnet to the logger and slap it on any level surface while it was in a plastic bag.

I think you just have to get creative with it...and keep in mind that usually the simple solutions often work the best.

(If a magnet doesn't work, taping a plastic bag over the logger would work just as well)

A magnet wouldn't cause the logger any problems....

We have used zip-loc bags on a number of motorcycle/boat intallations where water is obviously a serious problem... they worked very well. There are a number of products that are designed for digital cameras, MP3 players at the beach that look very suitable.

May I suggest a plastic "tupper ware" container just slightly larger than the box? This could be bolted or zip tied to the floor and would allow the wires to pass through with a couple of cut outs.

Note, I do NOT recommend stealing one from your wife/mothers kitchen. :)

I'd thought about that. bolt the lid upsidedown under the dl1, the if its raining just push the tupperware container onto the lid over the dl1..

Not exactly a single seater.

I mounted mine under the dash with a large piece of velcro.

See the DL1 on left hand side.
