DL1 status and beacon connections

Postby timhoverd » Sat Dec 30, 2006 2:24 pm

I'm changing the installation of my DL1 and although I've worked this out in the past I seem to have lost the details!

So, does anyone know:

For the log status output, does the DL1 include a current limiting resistor or do I need to add one myself when driving an external LED?

For the lap beacon input do I need to switch it to ground or +12V

Thanks in advance,

Tim

Tim,

The log status output is a sink rather than a source - you'll have to power the LED externally and then use a current limiting resistor in series to the log status pin.

No idea about the beacon input though...

Thanks Dave. I have in fact now trawled through my old email from Race Technology and found the answers. In summary these are:

1) The log status output is indeed a sink and
2) The beacon input is active high

Cheers,

Tim

How about a translation for the non electrical engineer type? :)

Hmm, fair comment! :D I tend to assume that other people understand my innate electron-herder terminology!

The points mean that:

a) The log status output, when turned on, accepts current from the outside. So, to use this with an LED for indication you connect the cathode of the LED to the log status output and the other end, via a current limiting resistor (try about 800 ohms) to the +12V supply.

b) You indicate the position of a track marker by pressing a switch that connects the beacon input to the +12V supply rail.

Better now?

Happy New Year!
