RPM pickup on BMW E36 M3

Postby lasseoe » Mon Apr 21, 2008 1:16 pm

Hi,

I'm hoping someone on here has successfully installed a DL1 and DASH1 in a BMW E36, my question is how you are reading out RPMs reliably.

I found a PDF from BMW detailing that on some models you will get RPM from the service/diagnose connector, or from connecting to a specific cable, also mentioned in the document.

Anyone tried this, or something else?

Cheers,

Lasse

You can pick up the tacho in a number of places:
Connector X16, pin 20, it's the 26 pin white connector on the back of the instrument cluster, the black wire.
D100 Data link Connector in the engine bay, pin 1, black wire
    Or any place between.

(this information comes from the MCoupe wiring diagrams. Should be same as the engine harness is electrically identical.
