RPM inputs

Postby GrahamB » Sun Jan 28, 2007 3:19 am

I've been having intermittent failures to log RPM via the spark-in connection on my DL1 for some time now. It appears to be getting worse, ie the last time out I didn't get any log of rpm in any run.

A CRO hooked to the terminal block at the back of the DL1 shows the signal (from the coil primary, also used to drive the bike's tacho) is present.
The tach itself seems to be fine.

So I decided to do some debugging: powered the DL1 up, connected the live monitor program and fed a 5V p-p square wave from a signal generator. This was happily logged via the spark in, but NOT by the low-level rpm in! The signal could also be correctly logged via any of the other 4 frequency inputs.

So in summary: spark in can detect 5V pulse, but not spark...
low level pulse cannot detect 5V pulse, but other freq. inputs can.

Connecting or disconnecting the spark-ground made no difference.

Is it at least possible this could be due to a firmware issue, or is the spark-in just a differently filtered version of the low-level rpm in?

Any chance the board schematic could be made available? Surely most of the IP of value is in the firmware, not the hardware layout...
