Yes, sent it back, and apparently it was shorted out... so paid for repair, it came back and was connected up again exactly the same , with the same rated fuses, and its now working, although not calibrated as yet we haven't had time...

Sitting with the same prospect, but adding DHL or Fedex back to UK from South Africa , then again back here plus having to pay VAT here again at 17% plus Import Duty - 20% ( don't even know on what item cost Customs will base it , makes this a serious conundrum

Apparently we had fried ours, not sure how as, the fuse was intact and we didn't have any spikes, when it came back £120 lighter.. we plugged it in exactly as it had been previously wired and its ok.. but a nightmare , when I bought it I was told I needed nothing else and then it turns out I needed an interface, at another £180.. Still bloody hard work to set up.. Still not finished.. save yourself the hassle buy a DTA or an aim.. !!! I will next time I can afford to swop it..

Since you're not purchasing the unit, you should not pay any import duty or VAT.

If you do send it to the UK, then RT can return it insuring it for it's full value, but invoice only for the repair, and make it quite clear on the export document that it is a customer return unit.

I've been doing this for years with several USA businesses and never had a problem.

Thanks for the positive note
However , you never know with South Africa. We used to import lots of RC Heli stuff , and this involved a few cases of sending back for repairs . This only works if one uses Fedex , DHL , Aramex or similar . But it still has to clear Customs
Afterall, the the tax paying citizens have to pay for the massive corruption and state capture
