DL1 - Dash 2 problem

Wired up my dash 2 to my mk1 DL1 on saturday and got a strange problem.
when i power it all up, the RPM bar graph comes up and thats it, and all the loights come up on the DL1 and then freezes.
If i scroll to through the menu to the 1st page and then press select, all is fine and the dash then reads properly.
the DL1 is configured to send data through the serial cable.
Any ideas

It was sent to you for upgrade last year to be upgraded to run with a dash 1. How do I find out
