DL1 Dash1 and intermitent Predictive Lap Timing

The on screen times work great when they work. But why don't they work consistently. I have flashed the firmware in both the DL1 and Dash1 recently.
I turn them on and wait for a satelite lock before starting logging. I exported the markers from the analysis software to the CF card. Each time I started logging in pit lane near the start finish line (marker).
Sometimes it works perfectly. Sometime I get no timing at all. And in the last run I got segment times but always zero for the lap time.
Can you see what is going wrong here?
I do have the GSM Modem box checked.
