At least for my DL1 Club, when I use the configuration tool on my laptop, it reflashes the unit (if needed) to the latest firmware.
When you download the analysis software, the latest firmwares for all devices are included.
One tricky thing I noticed is that a DL1 file made using a certain firmware may be more (or less) compatible with certain analysis software versions. So it's a good idea to save all versions?
