Configuring Shift Lights

Shift lights are used for alerting the driver the current engine RPM and when to shift gears. You can configure shift lights to illuminate based on one of following two methods.

  • Based on any variable
  • Based both on engine RPM and current gear position

Configuring the shift lights are carried out using the Shift Light dialog (Configuration -> Shift Lights).

Following section describes configuring shift lights using the above mentioned two methods in detail.

Configuring shift lights to illuminate based only on any variable

1. Open the Shift Light dialog (Configuration -> Shift Lights).

2. Select the variable that you want to base the shift lights on from the combo box. The current unit of the selected variable is also displayed alongside the combo box.

3. The variable value at which the shift lights should be illuminated is defined by entering values into the table. For the last row (all flashing), enter the value at which all LEDs will flash and would typically be set to the maximum permissible value for that variable.

4. Send the configuration to the DASH3 and check whether shift lights illuminate as expected. The brightness of the shift lights is controlled from the DASH3 itself. Refer Adjusting Shift light brightness section in DASH3 user manual.

Configuring Shift lights to illuminate based on both engine RPM and current gear position

The DASH3 can be configured to turn the shift on/off based on engine RPM and current gear. Threshold values for up to 7 gears and a neutral gear can be programmed into the device.

Note: Gear variable must be configured correctly to return the current gear position. If you haven’t set the gear variable yet, please read the Displaying Gears section before proceeding.

1. Open the Shift Lights dialog. (Configuration -> Shift Lights)

2. Select RPM from the combo box.

A checkbox with the message “Different RPM in different gears” will appear. Check this checkbox. The appearance of the dialog will change as shown in the following figure.

3. In first row of the table, enter the engine RPM values at which the shift lights illuminate for the first gear. In to the right most cell of the first row (all flashing), enter the engine RPM at which all 6 LEDs will flash and would typically be set to the maximum permissible engine speed for the first gear.

4. Repeat the fourth step for other available gears.

5. Send the configuration to the DASH3 and check whether shift lights illuminate as expected. The brightness of the shift lights is controlled from the DASH3 itself. Refer Adjusting Shift light brightness section in DASH3 user manual.
