Wheel speed sensor question.
I'm looking to record wheel speed.
Can this be done with a 75mm ABS ring on the driveshaft (I have a 26 and 48 tooth option available) or from what i've read, will this generate too many pulses per mile?
Kind regards,
Bill
Wheel speed sensor question.
Re: Wheel speed sensor question.
Hi there,
You are indeed correct, due to the number of teeth present on the ABS ring, the number of pulses will be too high for any of our dash displays to measure directly.
In order to use the signal from an ABS ring, we have an additional piece of hardware called the VRS conditioner. This allows the signal from the ABS ring to be properly smoothed to a consistent square wave, and also divides the number of pulses from the ABS ring, to allow the signal to be fed into our displays and loggers. Please see the below link for more information.

Re: Wheel speed sensor question.
Ok, thanks for your help.
So in theory it would be possible to run an ABS ring with all but 1 (or two opposite) tooth/teeth removed? It is not needed for ABS/Traction control
Is there a minimum target width for the tooth?
As per your Knowledge base.
Reference Target Dimensions
Tooth Height: .200 in. (5,06mm) min.
Tooth Width: .100 in (2,54mm) min
Tooth Spacing: .400 in. (10,16mm)
Target Thickness: .250 in. (6,35)
Alternatively, i'll look to take a trigger from an actual wheel sensor.
Thanks.

Re: Wheel speed sensor question.
Any thoughts?
75mm circumference with 1 or 2 teeth.
Thank you.

Re: Wheel speed sensor question.
IMHO, i think you'll find the duty cycle of the teeth way too small.
