RPM Pickup Problems

Postby Racerecall » Sun Apr 13, 2014 1:11 pm

I have a DL1 MK2 connected via an RPM sensor on a spark plug lead on my 3.2 911 Carrera.

The RPM seems accurate above 4000, but is very erratic between 1500 and 4000. As soon as the revs climb above 1500, then they indicate high figues, about double the actual and seem to jump around a lot.

Interestingly, if I set the Variable RPM limit to 0 instead of 8000, it shows a maximum of 12,000, so it seems there might be some sort of erratic spikes.

I hope someone can help :?:

Spark leads are pretty noisy.

Can you use the feed from an injector instead? (sorry, not know Porsche motors - injected or carbed?)

Try to pick up signal from tacho feed, a lot of ECU's switch off injectors on over run to save fuel, which is not helpful when trying to determine RPM.

I've had problems when picking up RPM signal from coil feed (wasted spark) - I've used this http://msdignition.com/Products/Accesso ... ickup.aspx with success.

Problem Solved. Switched to tacho feed. Thanks everyone.
