Last I checked, the Monitor variable definitions still don't match in Monitor and Analysis. You might try re-doing your variables in Monitor just to be sure that's not causing problems.

David:

You will need to use a null modem cable (as supplied with DL1) between the DL1 and the serial-USB adapter. From your ref to a gender changer it sounds as if maybe you are not using the null modem cable.

At a gess it likley the laptop is not seeing/ comunicating with the DL1

David:

Have you used the serial<>USB interface for anything else, and are you sure it is at Port3?

I focus on this because it is the most common problem area.

It is also possible that the DL1 is not configured to send serial data. How old is the DL1 and what level firmware is it running? Firmware rev is available in Data > Run Manager in Analysis (with some data loaded)

I am not sure of the age of the logger its about 1 1/2 years old. i think i upgraded in March 2006? it the one with the series port on the front

Firmware version 6-2. Data logged on 5/8/2007 @ 15:54. Logger serial number: 1250. Run Contains 100385 individual data samples, and 0 data formatting errors.

We didn't get any null modem cable with our brand new DL1, only a serial extension cable?! Borrowed one from a friend and connected the DL1 to my lap-top, started Lite Monitor and connected it to COM1. Nothing happens! Did the same thin, but now on my stationary PC. Same result, nothing...! Anyone have any sugestions?

If setup is correct:

Correct null modem cable
Correct COM port selected
DL1 configured to send data out serial port (it is by default)

Then Lite Monitor should just "work".

I'd suggest that you contact your dealer or Support / Sales at RTUK and get the correct serial cable.

Sorry for the problems!

Null Modem Cable

Postby hseward » Sat Apr 12, 2008 11:01 am

How do I know if the supplied cable is null modem ? Neither the monitor lite or monitor programmes are showing anything as per the previous query

The majority of serial cables with 9 way female connectors on both ends are null modem cables. If you can get the covers off to see the wires then you should see that pin 2 on one end connects to pin 3 on the other end and vice versa. If you can't get the covers off, push a bit of wire in each end and check with a multimeter.
