wiring gear position sensor for dash 2

Im about to install a sequential box and want to wire up the gear indicator display on my dash 2.
im using a penny and giles hall effect rotary position sensor which has a feed, ground and wiper connection.
the dash 2 manual says on connector 1 use pin 9 (input 1) and pin 6 ground. how would this work with the position sensor i have as the wiper output is works from the live connection
