DL1/Dash 2 RPM questions

Hi All,

I have a standard electronic distributor type ignition.

I have connected the -ve coil to the rH input on the DL1 and the rG to the body. Without the engine running I get over 7000 rpm. This only happens when I connect the ground, otherwise I get nothing, engine running or not.

This is a brand new DL1 Mk2, the Dash 2 is a few years old.

Anyine have any ideas what I have done wrong? I'm hesitant to connect the -ve coil up to the rL, though that has worked in the past, but I get strange signals. This is why I have a new DL1 BTW, the old one is being repaired, though there wasn't anything wrong with the rL circuit.

Cheers
Stu

Do not connect the -ve of the coil to the rl. It may work for some time but it is running way out of the rl voltage level spec and will damage the unit.

I am very surprised you are getting a consistent signal without the engine running. I suspect you just get a single sample when the ignition is turned on or something.

Please can you log some sample data with the engine off and then another file with the engine running and email it to me kieran@race-tech...

Kind regards,
