I'm installing a DL1 in a Suzuki DRZ400SM motorcycle, which uses a single cylinder (waste spark) engine and CDI ignition module.
The pulse from the CDI is very short, and can reach 10,500 Hz. Also, the output pulse is Negative going, relative to battery ground.
I'm finding that the DL1 does not see the RPM signal at all, and am looking for ideas on Why.
What is the minimum 'dwell' spec for the DL1 RPM input? Can it be negative?
What is the minimum/maximum voltage on the HT RPM input?
The CDI itself puts out a -200v pulse about 20 microseconds long:
A capacitive (wire clip) pickup on the coil output (spark) wire is also fast:
Are either of these signals expected to be useable as RPM inputs?
Do I need to build some kind of 'pulse stretcher'?
Any help would be much appreciated, even just a snippit of the DL1 schematic for RPM input.
Thanks!
RPM input: How short a pulse? (DL1) 16us?
