Vipec V44 not communicating with Dash 2?

Postby andy1980 » Mon Apr 29, 2013 9:56 am

I cant get the data to show on the Dash 2 from the Vipec V44 ECU, I've set the Baud rate correctly and tried the Data Stream off and on requested short but still nothing. I have the lead sales tech sold me for the ECU and also bought the lead from the Vipec that plugs into the ECU with a serial end on.

Any ideas why I cant get it to work?

Thanks
Andy

Hi Andy,

Information on setting up the Vipec V44:

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/ind ... 8AndLinkG4

but it sounds like you've done all that already.

Are you just running an ECU adapter+dash, or a data logger as well?

Thanks,

I'm just using the Dash 2, no data loggers.

ok - no problem.

The issue is we need to narrow down as to if its the ECU not outputting anything, the ECU adapter not working, or the dash2 not set up to display information. I would suggest that you start by trying to monitor the ECU adapter output directly on the PC using the lite monitor:

with the system set up like this:

That might give us a clue!

I went through a couple of things with a guy on the phone, the lite monitor being one of them, nothing was showing as coming out of the ECU?

I see - that's a bit tricky then.

I assume you can connect to the ECU and read/write settings etc? Is this done over a (RS232) serial, or USB connection?

to clarify, when you connect up like this:

http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/ind ... are/ECU-PC

1. are you absolutely certain you've got 12v to the ECU adapter as shown
2. for the cable shown connecting the ECU adapter to the PC, is this a single cable, or a cable and an adapater?

If it helps you can email me photos to andrew@race-t....com

Thanks!

Andy

I'll double check that I have it plugged in correctly and test the voltage at the live source and check the earth.

I will do it tonight when i'm with the car and let you know tomorrow.

Thank you for your help so far trying to sort it out.

Ok, I've checked and its wired correctly, also the adaptor has a 12v feed and an earth and still nothing coming up on the dash or the lite monitor?

Any ideas what to do next?

Andy

I have a V88, which has 2 ports, a 'USB' port and a 'CAN' port. I believe the V44 has the same ports.

Are you certain that you are using the CAN/Serial port, and NOT the USB port?
