Wrong dates and times of session files and folders

Postby ThomasLE71 » Sun Sep 26, 2010 1:37 pm

Hi all,

My current configuration includes the DL1, Video4 and Dash3 and most things are fine. Except that in most cases the dates and times of the session folders and files are wrong! The times are totally wrong and the dates are either one day ahead or the folders are named 80-01-06.

This is the list of folders of my sessions from April this year until now:

20100418-1 (10-04-18 )
20100418-2 (80-01-07)
20100418-3 (10-04-19)
20100513-1 (10-05-13)
20100513-2 (10-05-14)
20100515-1 (80-01-06)
20100515-2 (80-01-06)
20100516-1 (10-05-15)
20100516-2 (10-05-16)
20100613-1 (10-06-13)
20100718-1 (10-07-19)
20100718-2 (10-07-18 )
20100719-1 (10-07-19)
20100719-2 (10-07-20)
20100719-3 (80-01-06)
20100720-1 (10-07-20)
20100720-2 (80-01-06)
20100721-1 (10-07-21)
20100724-1 (10-07-24)
20100724-2 (10-07-25)
20100724-3 (80-01-06)
20100724-4 (10-07-18 )
20100724-5 (80-01-07)
20100807-1 (10-08-08 )
20100905-1 (10-09-05)
20100922-1 (10-09-23)
20100922-2 (80-01-09)
20100923-1 (10-09-24)
20100923-2 (10-09-23)

The dates in brackets are the original folder names on the CF cards after the sessions. The other dates are my own naming convention to get a consistent order.

Now I already asked the Race Technology people about this and they say they can't do anything about it because the date and times comes from the GPS module...

Is anybody else having the same or similar problems?

It is not only that the folders are named wrongly but also that I cannot even get the correct order of all the session from one day (The sessions are stored in folders named RTVnnnn in the root folders). E.g. on July, 24th this year I was on a track day and I recorded several times and also powered up the system several times. Aftwards I saw the five (!!!) folders with different dates on the CF card. I have almost no chance to sort the session folders within that contain the recorded data!

But the strange thing is that if i open a run in the Analysis tool and go to the Run Manager I see the correct date and time of the run (although it is in UTC time and I configured the DL1 with a +2 offset for the timestamp).
So I think it might be a good idea that after finishing the run the system could rename the just written folders and files to match the correct date and time that is included in the RUN file.
I think it is not possible to configure the folder with the Video4 configuration. This is possible with the DL1 only, right?

Last but not least: Last year when I only used the DL1 and Dash3 (without the Video4) I didn't notice any wrong dates and times in the folders!

Any comments?

Best regards,
Thomas

Hi Thomas,

The system gets time/date from the GPS receiver which means that the DL1 needs to have a good GPS lock before you start loggin otherwise you can indeed end up with the wrong date.

If you think that the dates are incorrect even when the system has a lock please let me know and we'll investigate - however I wasn't aware of any bugs in this.

Kind regards,

Support

To me it seems that the system has a lock. I also see GPS values in the run file right from the beginning (and as I wrote even the run files contain the correct date and time). So I think the dates (and times of the folders and files) are incorrect. But I don't know if it's a *good* lock.

I can provide sample run files for you to analyse.

Is there a way to configure the folder and file naming for the Video4? I can only find this for the DL1.

Thanks,
Thomas

Hi,

At the moment there are no alternatives for folder naming on the VIDEO4 - we leaft this off to try to keep things simple!

Thanks,

I sent a mail to Andy last week with sample data and a detailed description.

One thing I'd like to add: I'm pretty sure that it's useless to set the time offset to the UTC time in the DL1 configuration when using the Video4. From what I have seen in my data with the correct date (not very much) the time is always UTC.

Best regards,
Thomas
