RPMs max at 8,000

Postby WillM » Wed Jun 02, 2010 4:51 pm

I have an odd problem which I need some help with.

I have a DL-1 in my 1996 Mazda MX-5 Miata, which has a built motor.
The factory rev limit is 7200 RPM, and I have my redline currently set at 8500 RPM.

I pull the tach signal for the DL-1 from the stock instrument cluster, and it works great, but maxes out at 8,000 RPMS (in other words, the DL-1 logs engine speeds from 8000-8500 as 8000). I have an AutoMeter shift light connected to the same pin on the stock instrument cluster. The shift light works perfectly and displays the correct engine speed all the way to 8500 RPMs.

My ECU has datalogging functions, and also records RPM correctly to 8500 RPMs.

The instrument panel receives the RPM signal from the ECU, and not directly from one of the coils.

Is this a wiring or setup issue? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your help,

Will

Setup issue in variable RPM

Try, Data>Variable Manager>External Inputs>RPM>Maximum . . . set to 9000, or whatever limit you like.

I use 15000 rpm for an engine that revs to 12000

Is this when you look at the data in the Analysis software?
By default the maximum RPM is set at 8000 rpm in the variable manager of the Analysis software, if you open that up and look at the RPM channel you should be able to set the maximum RPM to an appropriate value.

Wow, I feel so dumb.

It has been such a long time since I first installed my DL-1. It never even occurred to me that the RPM variable could have a min/max setting in the variables manager!

Thanks for the help! I adjusted the variable setting and all RPM data now displays perfectly!
