Dash3 out-of-the-box "Screen 3" doesn't work

The Lat accel and Long accel values are constantly at zero on the DASH3lite. Does this indicate a problem with the DL1 or the DASH3lite?

Just got these and am trying to get things set up for use this weekend, not looking too good so far on that front...

Log some data while the car/logger is stationary. Free the logger from its mounts and rotate it.
Stand it on one side for a few seconds and then the other...
Then do the for-aft orientations.
If you can't be bothered undoing the logger then just rocking the car will produce a sensible trace on the accelerometers.
Look at the logged data in Analysis...

 I did not realize (and was just informed) that the "lite" model does not support the display of any variables other than lap timing related ones.

For the Race Technology folks:
I was unaware that it was quite that restricted. It's only mentioned explicitly in the second note buried at the bottom of this page: http://www.race-technology.com/wiki/index.php/OperatingTheDASH3/MonitoringVariables. The product pages on the website give a different impression. Maybe instead of describing the lite as "designed primarily as a lap time display", replace primarily with strictly.

It would also make a hell of a lot more sense for the DASH3lite to come with a different set of default screens, wouldn't it?

I would have thought that

"The DASH3 comes in 2 versions, the DASH3 and the DASH3lite:

* The DASH3lite is designed primarily as a lap time display, but also displays vehicle speed and has configurable shift lights.
* The standard DASH3 has all the features of the DASH3lite, but in addition can be configured to display almost any combination of numerical displays, graphs and bar charts of any variable and also display warning etc. This makes it a very flexible solution to all of your data displaying needs."

(see http://www.racetechnology.co.uk/dash3_2_32.html)

makes it pretty clear.

As a matter of interest is there an upgrade path from the Dash3lite to full Dash3 product ?

Yes, the DASH3lite is field upgradeable to a full DASH3.

In the DASH3 menu, under "Firmware Control" there is a submenu for upgrading. This will give you a code #. Give that plus $$ to your RT distributor (or RT) and you will receive an unlocking code that turns the DASH3lite into a DASH3.
