Move Analysis software to a new PC

Postby thos » Tue Sep 18, 2012 7:07 pm

I'm replacing my laptop, but want to grab all my Analysis configuration and variable settings etc.

What's the easiest way to backup and restore this data?

Thanks,
Tom

This is definitely one I want the answer to, especially w/ the new database functionality.

Which version? The database has moved a lot in the last few releases.

And there lies the problem. Let's assume 8.5 since it will (I hope) be out of beta soon.

I find nearly identical "data directories" in \Program Data as well as \Users\useracct\

And oddly, it doesn't matter if I upgrade 8.0 or 8.5, more times than not I get the dialog complaining that it can't migrate my data to the new point release.

It's the same usability issue that faced 7.x and 6.x before that.

On V8.5, the default will be Users/%USER%/Race Technology/V8.5

I install the version, then copy all the data into that structure. 8.5 does offer more options for choosing the source.

In previous versions it was under the Public user.
